Stomping On Women’s Rights and the Cycle of Poverty: Part 1

Cycle of PovertyCan we please give all applicants for public office an intelligence test .… Stupid is rampant! Republicans pass bills that help no one. They take away services to the poor because they are “lazy layabouts.” They complain about women having sex when it takes two to tango. They justify rape as if it were no big deal. They take away school lunches. They ban sex education and claim there is a “silver lining.”

WHAT?

Republicans Shut Down Planned Parenthood and Contraceptives.

What have they done for us lately?

Rick Perry gutted funding for family planning, leaving hundreds of thousands of Texas women without birth control and famously signed a sweeping abortion ban into law. Several other states have followed suit.

Paul Ryan said that Obamacare’s free birth control mandate is a “threat” – not to the women who need it, but to religious charities … who would be forced to violate their principles” and to “all those who turn to them in times of need.”

Rick Santorum said “The dangers of contraception in this country …. [i]t’s not okay. It’s a license to do things in a sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be.”

There is such a huge misunderstanding among conservatives regarding the purpose of birth control. It is to prevent a baby!  No, women don’t take it just so they can have more sex. Women don’t take it so they can have a license to do “things in a sexual realm.”

And where exactly are the men in this discussion? Are they using birth control? Are they even paying for half the cost? Honestly, women, how many guys do you know pay for half a woman’s birth control pills, which can be very expensive without insurance? Zero.

So first Conservatives eliminate access to birth control. Next they shut down Planned Parenthood. Just because.

Woman/Child Gets Pregnant

Next, a woman/child gets pregnant. Birth Control pills are only 99% effective. Republicans ask”why don’t you keep your legs closed?” OK guys, we don’t really need you to regulate our sexual practices. After all, you don’t do the same for men. Women and children do get pregnant via rape and incest.

And again, the Republicans failed science and biology class…..

JJune 2013, Jodie Laubenberg, a Republican member of the Texas House of Representatives said, “In the emergency room they have what’s called rape kits, where a woman can get cleaned out.”

Jan. 20, 2012 Rick Santorum, former US Senator said, “Rape victims should make the best of a bad situation.”

May 4, 2016: Tila Hubrecht, Republican State Representative in Missouri said, “Sometimes bad things happen- horrible things, but sometimes God can give us a silver lining through the birth of a child.”

AMAZING!

Republicans Restrict Abortion

So, you get pregnant and now you aren’t able to get a legal abortion due to all of the restrictions placed on clinics by Republicans (Mike Pence, Rick Perry, Casey Cox, Nathan Dahm, etc.)

  • The clinics closest to you have to have a doctor who is accredited.
  • You have to go twice to get a lecture.
  • You have to drive 100 miles or more.
  • You have to have an ultrasound and/or counseling.

Even though you have no intention of changing your mind, the sanctimonious Right-To-Lifers are interfering and passing laws that make their God happy. But what about the huge burden on the women who is being forced to keep a baby she doesn’t want and can’t afford?

Keep tuned in for the next installment of “Cycle of Povery, Part 2.”.
