As the dust settles in the high desert in Nevada, we look to the future and the general election. Yes it is closing time, it’s true that some folks decided to cause some high Jinx in the Democratic caucus. It was just a simple little misunderstanding of not being able to vote when you pull your Democratic credentials in order just to cause trouble. Now that it’s over and now President Obama has just delivered a groundbreaking speech telling everybody just to STFU, can we now focus on the gelatinous tan mass moving towards the podium that is Donald Trump.
Yes, the one and only, once in a lifetime, blue wave inspiring, racist, misogynistic, yada, yada, yada, this guy sucks. This election is going to be a brutal referendum on a whole generation and not just the Republican party.
Remember growing up in the eighties and wondering how did Reagan get away with all this hype! Oh, and then came H.W. and you were like what the hell. That’s when everybody swept in Bill Clinton! Fun time Bill, who really rocked that world and created the biggest economic expansion ever in the history of the United States. Until Obama had to clean up W’s mess here in the U.S. and all over the world! Worst money shot ever!
Now fast-forward to the Gen- X and millennials that have the chance to not only elect the first black president of the United States, but follow that up with the first female president of the United States. That’s history! As some people can’t wrap their head around how historic this is, that’s no reason to doubt that Hillary is going to steamroll her way through States that rarely turn blue, or are purple, or might be looking to change, (looking at you Nebraska) since the inception of this country.
As we turn our focus to the general election, it’s really important to keep in mind how dangerous Donald Trump is. All kidding aside, if this man gets into the White House and starts surrounding himself with the likes of Sarah Palin, Bill Kristol, and a Bridge Troll named Chris, who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?
What we do know is Ted Cruz has no place in a Trump presidency. This could all be for naught. This could all be hand-wringing and worrying about something that everybody knows is not going to come to pass. But it does draw some stark parallels to one of my favorite short stories of all time, A Sound of Thunder by Ray Bradbury . If you have not read this, I encourage you to, this might be the inspiration for folks to get out and vote and drag about 5 people along with you to make sure that doesn’t happen!
Everybody is waiting with breath that is baited. Bernie and his supporters need to coalesce around the obvious frontrunner and get on board for the big win! Remember, Team Red does not play fair, and we all have to be aware of the shenanigans that they have already tried to pull in Arizona and now Maryland. We all need to be on board. We all need to be on guard. It is our democracy that is at stake in this time or something that John Adams might have said that’s inspirational.
Anyway, we have an opportunity to shape the United States Supreme Court, and put in the best and most qualified candidate we have for President. Contrast that with a field that does not inspire a lot of confidence. It doesn’t matter if Team Red pulls Mitt Romney out of their backside with the skeleton of Ronald Reagan holding tightly to the fresh new soul of Antonin Scalia. Team Red lost, and these are people who do not lose, and they are pissed!
Like Obama said “the system isn’t as rigged as you think it is.” This is the time everybody needs to keep their powder dry and look for the whites of their eyes coming out of Cleveland! ‘Cuz when these guys come, they’re going to come hard, and we have to be ready. All kidding aside, and all thinly-veiled analogies aside, when it comes down to it, everybody needs to vote!
As for Bernie Sanders and the trouble-making sect of people that is rapidly dwindling from Nevada, I would say this: “I hope you go to sleep tonight and dream of the tragedy that is your life!”
