A brief thought on tonight’s VP debate: there’s very little hard evidence that debates, especially VP debates, affect the outcome of a presidential election, which argues for doing something a lot more entertaining instead.
That said, if you’re a millennial voter, or someone who hasn’t paid much attention to the presidential race up to now, you might want to tune in because there’s likely to be significantly more discussion of policy substance than is possible when Trump is on stage. And if you want to find out whose policies might best serve your preferences, tonight’s debate is a chance to do that.
And if you’re into nostalgia, seeing two late-middle-aged, upper middle-class white men debating national policy ought to be just the thing. “Return with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear….”
