Why One Sanders Supporter Is Voting Their Conscience By Voting For Clinton

As we all already know, Senator Sanders endorsed Presidential Nominee Hillary Clinton yesterday and the words that kept reverberating amongst Libertarian, Green Party and Bernie or Bust individuals were “vote your conscience.”

Do not vote for the lesser of two evils. If you don’t agree with the candidate in every way find the candidate you do agree with and vote for them even if it is clear you are voting for somebody that overwhelmingly has ZERO chance of wining and in essence are just casting a token vote.

Vote your conscience.

Then news came out about the Republican platform that the GOP is putting together and it is a frightening piece of archaic Taliban-like document that proudly attempts to take us back to the 1950s. Have you read this thing? If you haven’t then you can check it out here. It is actually frightening how far out of touch the Republican Party is, and that they actually have a chance of winning with their platform, and their candidate. That is when I started thinking about those words…

Vote your conscience.

I was a Bernie supporter. I voted for him in the primaries. I really think that he was the best candidate in the entire field and I would have liked to see him become our next president. I am not Hillary’s biggest fan. I think she is too much into the pockets of Wall Street and is too much into the pockets of the defense industry. I am a Progressive and I believe that Sanders was the best opportunity for us to further the progressive cause. But..he did not win. Hillary did. That of course is the whole point the libertarians, Bernie or Bust and Republicans are trying to make…

Vote your conscience.

Well I am. My conscience does not allow for the anti American, theocratic misogynistic, xenophobic, bigoted, homophobic, hate-filled, self righteous, war and fear mongering Republican party to win. The platform they are putting together makes it clear that they are willing to destroy this country before they will allow it to progress and join the rest of the world in the 21st century. This platform makes it clear there is no room for anybody but them in this country.

Gays. Lesbians. Feminists. Immigrants. Muslims. Atheists. Transgender. Non-Christian. Sorry… No room for you here. We are (literally) building a wall… And you are not welcome inside it.

As I read this report on the development of the Republican platform I realized that, while I preferred Senator Sanders, voting for Hillary Clinton is not a violation of my conscience. Allowing my vote to go unheard and ineffective in the face of this theocratic, hate-filled travesty; this religion and racist-driven train wreck that is the Republican Party…that would be a violation of my conscience.

Voting Hillary does not violate my conscience nearly as much as allowing the Republican Party to win.
